Introduction
I
used to live in Texas
Why don't I now, you wonder?
Well now I guess I must confess I made a fatal blunder.
EX
TEX
I used to live
in Texas,
The second-largest state.
(It used to be the biggest
But I guess we'll have to wait
Until the global warming
Farther north than here is felt,
And that John-come-lately upstart
Called Alaska starts to melt.)
I used to live
in Texas,
And my neighbors were so kind.
I was born in South Ca'lina,
But they never seemed to mind.
My wife and youngest son were born
In Texas, don't you see,
And so I guess that made a legal
Wet-back out of me.
I used to live
in Texas.
Why don't I now, you wonder?
Well now I guess I must confess
I made a fatal blunder.
I used to live in Texas
But the natives made me go
When they found out my secret...
I FORGOT the Al...the ala....
You know, that little mud church
down in San Antonio...
