Introduction
Though
England and America
Are so together hung
It's often said we're separated
By a common tongue.
The
View From the Loo
My love affair
with language
Has been going on a while,
And since I was a wee sma' lad
I've been an Anglophile.
You see, I'm
Cherokee and Scot
But mostly Sassenach.
(But only north of Cornwall
Otherwise, I take that back.)
Though England
and America
Are so together hung,
It's often said we're separated
By a common tongue.
So speaking
with my British friends,
To keep from sounding dumb,
I've tried to learn what THEY mean
By bonnet, boot, and bum,
And cubby locker,
flat, and pram,
And lorry, lift, and loo.
I'm such an avid logophile,
It wasn't hard to do.
