Why
I Write Poetry
I am too lazy
to write longer fiction.
It keeps
me from watching Star Trek reruns.
Because
my kids think it's stupid.
Because
if I don't, I'll jump.
So I can air
out family skeletons
in a secret code Mom doesn't understand.
So I
can clear some space in my head.
So I
can use one of those magnetic poetry kits.
So I can wear
a beret in a café.
Because
if I don't, I'll have to face the dishes.
So I
can have something to do while eating chocolate.
So I
can pretend I know what love is.
