Introduction
This
is a poem I wrote about my ocker hubby who loves his beer, shed, fishing
and mates ...
Wine
and Beer
I am romantic,
but you are prosaic
In soppy movies I'll shed a tear
While you love watching war movies
Because I am wine and you are beer
Writing poetry
fills my senses
Fixing boats gives you a thrill
Music makes my heart beat faster
But you are Jack and I am Jill
The only music
you can remember
A Deep Purple concert at 17
Our last dance was at our wedding
Because you are John and I am Jean
At weddings
I watch the lovers dance
My foot taps quietly under the table
While you drink beer and laugh with mates
Because you are Mark and I am Mabel
At dinnertime
I cook up a storm
Your favourite, steak, eggs and chips
While I eat pasta with the kids
Because I am Dorothy and you are Dick
When you're
home from fishing with a feed
Better cook it in batter or I'll be dead
None of this non-fat grilling or steaming
Cos' I am Giselle but you are Greg
Our conversation,
when we have it
Is not of family or romance
How big was that fish you caught today?
Because you're a-marchin', while I'm a dance
I'd love to
get a birthday gift
Of flowers, chocolates or a kiss
But no, I get an electric kettle
Because you're a Mr and I'm a Miss
Yes, I am Venus
and you are Mars
And you have made it perfectly clear
That our two worlds will never collide
For I am wine and you are beer.
